We dream about running our own business. We envisage life without a boss telling us what to do, we imagine our office or factory set up just the way we want it. We can come and go when it pleases us and we have ample amount of money flowing in.
Is this what really happens once we open the doors? It wasn’t the case for me. What creeps in is the ‘boss’ at home telling us, we are never home. We come early and leave late, doing quotes after hours when everyone has gone to bed. Our office is messy and we can’t find what we are looking for. And money? What money? Where did it go?
This time around let’s talk about planning so that the above can be predictable and catered for.
Understand the basics of Planning
Vision | Goals | Strategies | Outcome
Vision: Without a vision for your business you will simply turn up to work every day. You will be doing and doing the same thing over and over. You might make money, you might not. With a vision, you will have a roadmap to follow.
Goals: Without goals, you are on the road to nowhere. Goals are implemented after you have a clear vision. They are written down, shared among staff and reviewed regularly until achieved. Goals are set with timeframes in mind.
Strategies: Strategies are systems that are set up to support your goals. They are also written down and reviewed regularly.
Outcome: The outcome is then measurable and predictable. Healthy Outcomes help you to see your vision come to completion or fruition.
If you understand these four criteria you are well on your way to success. To implement the above you must surround yourself with people who lift your skills and help you along the way.
